Projects and Unix Groups

Most people will want to create projects rather than Unix groups. Unix groups are used to manage functions such as access and permissions to various aspects of a system (SSH, sudo, etc.).  You can request a new project here.

The GCE projects directory is an NFS mount that users can access from any computer in the GCE environment.

  • Existing projects can be found at /nfs/gce/projects/<project>
  • Project directories permission The directory for your project is the one out of which you and your colleagues should collaborate, and any user who belongs to the Unix group associated with any given project will have read and write capabilities within that directory.
